Hello fellow Torontonians!
In a city filled with art, music, culture and some very passionate people who have dedicated their lives to those very subjects, wouldn’t it be nice if you could gather together and share stories about exciting projects taking place?
Introducing Museums Showoff TO!
Based on the successful UK series, this monthly event is for anyone interested in museums. Held on the last Thursday of the month at the Museum of Inuit Art (207 Queen’s Quay West) at 6 PM, Museums Showoff TO features a maximum of nine speakers who speak for nine minutes on any topic related to museums: from collections to events to critical issues and everything in between.
For each event, four speakers are invited, four spots are left open for anyone to sign-up online, and one spot is available for anyone to sign-up on site. Each speaker gets nine minutes to discuss whatever museum-related topic they’d like, followed by plenty of time after the talks for discussion and collaboration. The only catch: speakers have to wait a month to sign up again.
The event (and museum admission) is always free for participants but a $5 donation is encouraged, which will be donated to a new fund dedicated to professional development for emerging museum professionals.
Museums Showoff TO kicks off January 26th and you can see a full list of speakers here.
We hope to see you there!
